About Me

Hi, I’m Marlijn.

I’m the maker behind Studio Bluem. I studied fashion and spent several years working in the clothing industry as a product developer and production manager, but I’ve always been happiest when I’m actually making things with my hands.

I’ve also always been interested in sustainable fashion and knew that eventually I wanted to move more in that direction. I started Studio Bluem in 2020, originally with a focus on clothing, as a way to make things on a much smaller and more personal scale. Because I make everything myself, I know exactly where and how each piece is made. I try to work with organic and more sustainable materials wherever I can, and to make choices that feel right to me. I definitely don’t do everything perfectly, but I try to do the best I can with what I know and keep learning along the way.

Over time, Studio Bluem has grown into much more than just clothing. I realised that I didn’t really want to stick to one thing. I love learning new crafts and techniques, which has taken me from sewing and clothing to quilting, patchwork, natural dyeing, knitting and weaving. Studio Bluem has become a place where I can experiment, learn and follow whatever I’m curious about at the time.

I like to work slowly and make things that feel personal and one of a kind. I especially love processes where you can’t control everything. Natural dyeing being a perfect example of that. Sometimes colours turn out completely different from what I expected, but that’s also what keeps it interesting.

Everything you see here is made by me in my studio in the Netherlands. Alongside my own work, I’m also open to commissions and custom pieces, so feel free to get in touch if you have something in mind.

Love,
Marlijn
